The Elementary School Guidance Counselor supports the academic, social, and emotional development of all students at Tyrrell Elementary School. Providing comprehensive school counseling services designed to promote student success, foster a positive school climate, and assist students in developing the skills necessary for lifelong learning and responsible citizenship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist students in developing effective study habits, goal-setting, and problem-solving skills.
- Collaborate with teachers to identify and address student academic concerns through classroom interventions and individual support.
- Participate in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process to help monitor and improve student performance.
- Provide individual and small group counseling to address peer relationships, self-esteem, and behavior management.
- Implement social-emotional learning (SEL) programs aligned with district and state standards.
- Serve as a liaison between students, families, teachers, and administrators to support student well-being.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive counseling program consistent with the NC Comprehensive School Counseling Framework.
- Maintain accurate records and comply with ethical and legal counseling standards.
- Participate in professional development and student support team meetings.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in School Counseling from an accredited institution.
- Current North Carolina School Counselor (K–12) license required.
- Previous counseling experience in an elementary school setting preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed practices, and crisis intervention strategies.
