Speech-Language Pathologist (Part-Time)

TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist (Part-Time)

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited institution. Valid NC Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists license. NC DPI licensure in Speech-Language Pathology (or eligibility to obtain). Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA preferred. School-based experience preferred.

 

This is a part-time, 10-month position that follows the Academic Calendar.

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Exceptional Children / School Principal

 

JOB GOAL: To help students with special communicative needs reach their maximum potential in articulation, language, voice, fluency, and overall communication skills to support educational success.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Organize and coordinate speech-language services and maintain appropriate documentation in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Conduct screenings and evaluations to obtain diagnostic information and determine student eligibility for services.
• Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for speech-language eligible students in collaboration with the IEP team.
• Plan and implement therapy using evidence-based practices and appropriate tools to support student progress in the curriculum.
• Maintain Medicaid billing profiles and therapy notes for eligible students, using the district’s designated billing platform.
• Provide consultation services to staff and families, make appropriate referrals, and implement recommendations for services.
• Support effective interpersonal relationships and engage in ongoing professional learning.
• Supervise speech-language pathology assistants and clinical fellows when applicable.
• Ensure compliance with DPI standards and IDEA requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the EC Director or Principal.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Physically able to operate equipment such as computers and adaptive technology tools.
• Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 5 pounds frequently.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey and exchange information.
• Able to apply logical thinking, collect and analyze data, and draw valid conclusions.
• Competent in using a range of assessment tools and treatment activities.
• Able to maintain accurate records and produce reports as needed.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and families.
• Adaptable to perform under stress and respond to the needs of students and staff.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Thorough knowledge of speech-language pathology principles and their application in educational settings.
• Understanding of assistive technologies and diagnostic tools.
• Up-to-date on trends and best practices in the field.
• Ability to plan and deliver professional development as needed.
• Ability to create and implement individualized therapy programs based on student need.
