GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under direction, the purpose of the position is to provide support and coordination for the district’s Multilingual (ELL) Services Coordinator. Employees in this classification function in primary assigned areas of the program, in recruiting parents to participate in district-wide initiatives for English language learners (ELLs) and increasing ELLs’ parent and family involvement in schools. The goal is to establish effective communication between home and schools and improve community outreach and training opportunities for parents and families of students in grades Pre-k through 12th that will impact the high student academic performance of our English language learners.  Work can include designing and developing parent training workshops, gathering and presenting detailed data about parent involvement activities occurring in schools and translating necessary newsletters, applications and enrollment documents for ELL parents/families. Essential functions as outlined herein are performed according to the functional area of assignment. Performs related work as directed. 

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Contact outside community agencies to seek resources and activities that will increase the participation of English language learners’ families in schools and parent training opportunities
  • Provide translating of district and school documents designed to inform parents such as letters, bulletins, announcements, calendars, notices, webpage information, articles, flyers, newsletter community resources communication, but not limited to these as requested by school administration and central office staff.
  • Contact parents and families through phone calls, home visits, and meetings at school or district site in order to encourage participation in school and or district activities and events
  • Provide information to parents concerning district policy and procedures such as registration, Parent advisory, curriculum, assessment, discipline etc. as stipulated in our TCS Pupil Progression Plan, ELL Plan, Code of Conduct, Parents’ Guide
  • Maintain a multilingual parent resources and information for families.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

 High School Diploma and 18 hours of college credit from an accredited institution of higher education or an Associate’s degree from an official transcript with demonstrated interpersonal and social competence in working with linguistically and culturally diverse stakeholders. Must be fluent in English and in another language particularly in the areas of Speaking, Reading, and Writing and have strong communication and public speaking skills; must have flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as during parent and/or community events, ability to work positively with other parents and district personnel, ability to take initiative in coordinating and organizing activities and events; ability to accurately collect, organize and maintain records.
